Welcome to Our School

Blue Valley Montessori has welcomed children since August 1999, offering Montessori early education as a daycare and preschool in Overland Park, Kansas, next to Saint Andrews Highlands and near St Andrews Golf Club and Tomahawk Valley Park. We serve families from Olathe. Our staff hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and CPR and First Aid certifications.

Our Primary classrooms welcome children from 24 months to 6 years, and flexible daycare options include Drop-in Care and Part-time schedules. At our Montessori Unlimited school, learning comes to life in carefully prepared environments where children work with hands-on materials, make meaningful choices, and explore concepts at their own pace with guidance from skilled teachers. Rather than memorizing, children build understanding through exploration, practice, and real-world experiences.

Dance gives children a creative way to move, and Soccer builds teamwork alongside friends. Both are listed on this page. Children also take an active role in their learning by selecting work, caring for their environment, and practicing everyday life skills, with individualized support from teachers who observe each child's development. Our outdoor playground is separated by age, giving each group room to run and play. Livestreaming video lets you check in on the classroom and see that learning for yourself. Our kitchen serves healthy meals and snacks, and our teachers encourage children to try new foods.

We focus on safety so families can focus on the rest of their busy days. Come tour Blue Valley Montessori at 11100 W 135th Street, Overland Park, KS 66221, and watch the Montessori approach in action.

Primary Program

2.5 – 6 years 1:12 Staff-to-Child Ratio

As children mature, they see practical life exercises that adults find commonplace as interesting and extraordinary, such as sorting, pouring, and washing dishes. Because control and coordination of mind and body is still developing, the Montessori Method includes tangible experiences with concrete materials used to learn math, movable alphabets to explore language, and cubes, cylinders, and other shapes to categorize, find spatial relationships, and more.

Enrolled Family

We absolutely LOVE this school and are so happy that we made the switch a couple of years ago. Our child is flourishing here! They have sparked an absolute love of learning and of school that was missing before. We really feel that all of the teachers care for every student at the school, whether they are in their individual classes or not. We only wish we would have known about Blue Valley Montessori sooner...We would have made the switch much faster!

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing the right daycare is an important decision. These are answers to common questions we hear from families like yours.

Does Blue Valley Montessori have certified Montessori teachers?

Yes, Blue Valley Montessori has certified Montessori teachers who are trained to support your child's learning and development. We require lead teachers in our Primary and Elementary programs to hold diplomas from teacher training centers accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE). This specialized training helps our teachers provide authentic Montessori learning experiences that encourage your child's independence, confidence, and curiosity.

How does Blue Valley Montessori maintain a secure learning environment and manage authorized child pickup?

Your child's safety is our top priority at Blue Valley Montessori. We maintain secure entrances, follow visitor identification procedures, and release children only to individuals you have authorized for pickup. Our team also follows established supervision and check-in procedures to help keep your child safe throughout the day.

What is the illness policy at Blue Valley Montessori?

At Blue Valley Montessori, we ask you to keep your child home if they aren't feeling well. If your child develops symptoms of illness during the day, we will separate them from the other children so they can rest comfortably while being monitored by a staff member. We will also contact you to arrange pickup. For the health and well-being of your child and others, your child must remain home until they have been free of symptoms for at least 24 hours or their physician provides written clearance indicating they can return to school.

How often will my child have opportunities for outdoor play and physical activity at Blue Valley Montessori?

At Blue Valley Montessori, outdoor time is an important part of the daily experience at Montessori Unlimited and typically offered twice a day, as weather permits. When outdoor play isn't possible, we provide indoor movement activities throughout the day.

How often are classrooms and materials cleaned and sanitized at Blue Valley Montessori?

Our school is designed to be easily cleaned and maintained at high standards of sanitation. We implement and post daily cleaning and disinfecting schedules in our classrooms. Frequent hand washing is practiced by staff and children, and is always required before eating, after toileting, and after outdoor play.

Are meals and snacks included, and how are allergies handled at Blue Valley Montessori?

Blue Valley Montessori provides nutritious meals and snacks, with menus approved by a registered dietitian nutritionist and aligned with USDA nutrition and portion guidelines. Meals are served family-style, encouraging children to participate in setting the table, serving, and cleaning up, where permitted by the local health department. If your child has a food allergy or dietary restriction, we’ll work with your family to understand their needs and develop an appropriate plan.

How does Blue Valley Montessori help a child settle in during their first days?

Starting somewhere new is a big step, and Blue Valley Montessori helps your child adjust with a welcoming classroom, caring teachers, and consistent daily routines. We take time to understand your child's personality, interests, and individual needs while gently introducing them to classmates and Montessori activities. We encourage families to share any questions or concerns with our teachers so we can help make the transition a positive and comfortable experience.
