Help Us Celebrate Literacy Month: Read for the Record !

October is Literacy Month at all of our schools, and we’re kicking it off in a big way!

Montessori Unlimited is going to help break a world record!

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record ® (JRFTR), presented in partnership with the Pearson Foundation, is one day of the year when millions of people come together to celebrate literacy in an effort to jump-start a child’s future.

On Oct. 4, 2012, adults and children across the country will be encouraged to read Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad by David Soman and Jacky Davis, in support of Jumpstart’s mission: to work toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.

Since 2006, Read for the Record has

  • Engaged 7 million children
  • Raised more than $7 million for early education programs
  • Provided more than 1 million books for children in low-income neighborhoods

More than 63,000 of our children, staff and families were among the 2.2 million people worldwide who read Anna Dewdney’s Llama, Llama Red Pajama in 2011. Montessori Unlimited is proud to be a reading partner once again this year and hopes to get even more people involved in reading Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad.

The book tells the story of Lulu, otherwise known as Ladybug Girl, who gathers her friends Bumblebee Boy, Dragonfly Girl and Butterfly Girl for some imaginary fun. Lulu and her friends learn about friendship, feelings and courage. If you’d like to help Read for the Record with your family on Oct. 4, you can read the book online for free. Don’t forget to tell your school director how many family members participated, so that Montessori Unlimited can get credit for everyone involved!
