Our SchoolAt Longwood Montessori, our duty as educators is to foster confidence, independence and a life-long love of learning. We encourage children to explore the world in order to truly understand it rather than merely accept it as fact. It is vital that we offer children an environment that is nurturing, loving, challenging and respectful. Our teachers and staff are trained to effectively observe each child and provide the stimulation needed to excel. We believe that our role as educators is to continually build upon our commitment to quality. School GoalsPast and present-day scientific research confirms the importance of how a child views their experiences before the age of approximately six years old. These are the years that will determine how your child views the remaining academic years and more importantly how he or she sees themselves in relation to the world and other people. Recognizing that education begins at birth, we understood why Maria Montessori wrote "The first lesson we must learn is that the tiny child’s absorbent mind finds all it’s nutrients in its surroundings. We are proud to offer an environment designed to meet the stages from birth to three years and three to six years. Our infant/toddler environment is designed to encourage language and cognitive development as well as stimulating their sensitive period for movement and independence. Our primary environments are designed to develop a strong foundation for the necessary study skills and concepts of reading writing, math, geography, and science through enriched activities and exercises. Our academic curriculum is tied into the academic learning through three principles: Care of the environment, care of self and care of others. Our experienced and long-term dedicated certified Montessori directresses present and prepare lessons in a fun and safe environment. News and NotesWe invite you to come and visit our school. This will give you the opportunity to observe the classrooms and talk to a certified teacher. We will be happy to answer any questions you have and explain our program. Extracurricular Opportunities
