Since our school opened in Fall 1999, our faculty and staff have had the pleasure of helping hundreds of wonderful children grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally. Our school offers eight Primary classrooms lead by AMS certified Directresses for children ages 3 to 6 years old. We also offer one afternoon classroom lead by an AMS certified Directress for children ages 2 to 3 years old. We have a diverse group of families from many ethnic backgrounds allowing many opportunities for learning, sharing, and understanding. Our caring, experienced faculty members are dedicated to providing rich educational experiences for each child while guiding him through the Montessori classroom at their individual pace. In addition to our bright, well-equipped classrooms, our outdoor play and garden areas are wonderful environments for recreation and exploration. We invite you and your child to come for a tour and a classroom observation. We offer a true Montessori program year-round, with our academic year supplemented by a summer session. Our Montessori classrooms are organized to allow for exploration in Practical Life, Sensorial, Language Arts, Mathematics, Creative Work and the Sciences (Geography, Botany, Zoology, History, and Social Sciences). In addition to the offering your child a true Montessori experience, our school offers extracurricular activities to families for an additional fee. Currently, the extra-curricular programs offered include:
School GoalsAt Aurora Montessori School, our primary objective is to provide a secure, comfortable environment in which children develop self-control, self-motivation, and respect for themselves and others. We strive to instill a sense of independence and confidence in each child, knowing that he or she is embarking on a lifelong journey of discovery. We also strive to create a strong sense of community so that our staff, students, and parents can take genuine pride in their school and in our collective accomplishments. The Montessori philosophy employs an approach that observes the child, prepares a classroom that meets their needs and allows them the freedom to explore that classroom. In so doing, we control the environment, not the child. Because our large, well-organized classrooms encourage movement, exploration, socialization and manipulation, we are providing an environment that accommodates all learning modalities: visual, auditory and tactile-kinetic. Each child progresses at his own pace in a non-competitive and nurturing atmosphere. In this environment, our children are allowed to develop their own inherent tendencies toward becoming responsible, compassionate, confident adults. Our School CommunityWe are fortunate to have a wonderful staff that follows the Montessori philosophy throughout the entire day. The materials set out in the room have been carefully designed with an educational purpose in mind. Since the classroom environment is prepared for the child, all the materials are visible and accessible for the child so the child can find what they want and work without having to wait for the teacher. Some children may be reading while others are doing math. Some children may be studying the world map while others are listening to classical music on headphones. Meanwhile, the teacher is free to help individuals or small groups. We are also fortunate to have great diversity in our student body and through this diversity our children learn respect and tolerance for new experiences. Aurora Montessori School strives to appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of all cultures as a means to a more peaceful planet. Our fortune continues with a supportive, dynamic family community. Our school offers many opportunities for family involvement. Annually, our families look forward to many school events which include: a fall festival benefiting the Make-A-Wish foundation, our classroom winter programs, a piano recital, the science fair, “Donuts with Dad” and “Muffins with Mom” days, and our 5-6 year old (kindergarten) graduation. We look forward to your visit at our school. Please call us for additional information or to arrange a private tour. |
